Welcome to Helen Estates: A Celebration of Legacy, Design, and Community

*Seller/ Builder is married to a GA & AL Licensed REALTOR®

Nestled on approximately five serene acres just off Summerville Road in North Phenix City on 43rd Street, Helen Estates is more than just a neighborhood—it’s a story of legacy, love, and thoughtful design. Owned for decades by Mrs. Helen McCullar, a local real estate legend, this property has long been a coveted gem. Over the years, many admired it, but Mrs. McCullar’s protective love for this land kept it off the market. Following her passing, the property became available, and by the grace of God, it found its way into the hands of Joey and Kim Mixon, a husband-and-wife duo with deep roots in the community who have named this development after Ms. Helen- Helen Estates.

Joey, a custom home builder and owner of Summerville Homes Inc. since 1991, and Kim, a respected Realtor and owner of the Kim Mixon Real Estate Team since 2004, saw this as more than a development opportunity. It was a chance to honor Mrs. McCullar’s legacy while creating something truly special for the community they love.

**Honoring the Past, Designing for the Future**

Helen Estates is a tribute to the rich history of this established area. With homes in the surrounding neighborhood mostly dating back to the 1960s and earlier, Joey and Kim envisioned designs that would complement the era while offering a fresh perspective. Inspired by classic bungalow styles, the six custom homes in this development range from approximately 1,800 to 2,400 square feet. Each one is unique, with thoughtful floor plans, cheerful color palettes, and inviting front porches that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

“In a market filled with repetitious farmhouse designs, we wanted to bring something different—something with life and personality,” Kim explains. Drawing inspiration from their deep connection to the Florida Keys, where they were married in 2010, the homes feature vibrant, island-inspired colors that are both fun and calming. “These homes are designed to make people smile when they drive by,” she adds.

**The Women Behind the Names**

At the heart of Helen Estates is a celebration of the women who have shaped Joey and Kim’s lives. Each of the six homes is named after important women, reflecting the love and gratitude they feel for these inspiring individuals.

???? The Virginia: Named after Kim’s grandmother, Virginia Kipp, who was the quintessential storybook grandmother, a woman deeply loved and respected. She spent her career helping special needs children and cherished her family above all else. Funny enough, Kim is one of only two out of eight grandchildren ever to be spanked by Mrs. Kipp ????—a testament to Kim’s strong-willed nature! ????  Virginia Fuller, who played a vital role in helping Kim lay the foundation for The Kim Mixon Real Estate Team in 2014, also shares this namesake. She has been a steadfast friend and a key part of Kim’s success.

????  The Ruby: A tribute to Joey’s mother, Ruby Mixon, known to many as Ms. Ruby. A strong woman who raised four highly successful children, she dedicated her life to her faith, community, and family. Her unmatched work ethic and unwavering belief in doing right by others are values she instilled in Joey. The world is a better place because of Ms. Ruby’s life.

???? The Ann:  Honoring Kim’s mother, Ann Kipp, who passed away unexpectedly in 2018. Ann was incredibly thoughtful and creative, marching to her own beat and living with beautiful authenticity. She had a deep devotion to Christ, and her prayers over Kim and her siblings are the rock of Kim’s faith. Kim continues to feel her love and support every day and knows it was the prayers of her mother which have helped to guide, shape, and protect her for all these years.

???? The Colinda: Named after Kim’s older sister and lifelong best friend, Colinda Fake. With only a one-year-and-three-month age difference, the sisters shared a room growing up and have been inseparable ever since. Even as adults, they talk almost every day. Colinda’s reserved nature perfectly balances Kim’s more outspoken personality, making them the perfect duo. Colinda has always been a sounding board and inspiration for Kim.

????  The Wendy: This home carries a dual tribute. Wendy Mixon, Joey’s oldest child, is an incredibly talented artist and designer. She created Kim’s logo in 2009 and still oversees much of Kim’s marketing aesthetics. When Wendy was a child and learned her father was colorblind, she cried for him ????—little did she know, she would later help shape so much of the visual side of his business. Wendy has always been a cheerleader for her dad. The second namesake, Wendy Kurz, has been one of Kim’s dearest friend since their freshman year of high school. She was the first to encourage Kim to take the leap from banking into real estate in 2004—some of the best advice Kim ever received. Wendy and Kim share a deeply special, God-gifted friendship; she is like a sister to Kim.

????  The Olivia Kate: Also known as Livi Kate Mixon, she is Joey’s only granddaughter and full of spunk, style, and sass. She keeps the entire family on their toes, and Joey absolutely adores her. Her unique perspective on the world keeps everyone laughing, and there is no doubt she will do wonderful things in her life. Kim and Joey are beyond grateful to have a front-row seat to watch her grow.

This meaningful naming process ties each home to a story of love and legacy, honoring Mrs. McCullar’s memory while celebrating some of the women whose personal connections have shaped Joey and Kim’s journey throughout their lives.

**Quality You Can Count On**

Joey Mixon’s reputation for excellence precedes him. Known for his high standards and attention to detail, he ensures every home he builds is one he’d be proud to live in himself. From the foundation to the roof, no corner is cut, and only the best contractors are chosen to bring these homes to life.

“These homes are a reflection of our commitment to quality and thoughtful design,” Joey shares. “We are putting our hearts into every detail.”

**A Vision for the Community**

Helen Estates isn’t just about building homes—it’s about enhancing the community. By preserving the natural beauty of the property, including its mature trees and foliage, and offering spacious half-acre+ lots, the development maintains the charm and serenity of the area.

The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Neighbors who feared the land might be turned into apartments have expressed excitement and gratitude for the thoughtful approach Joey and Kim have taken. The homes bring new life to the neighborhood while respecting its history and character.

**A Hopeful Future**

As Helen Estates takes shape, Joey and Kim hope it will inspire others in the real estate and building industries to embrace unique, personalized designs. They want these homes to be a source of joy for their owners, a place where families create lasting memories.

“Our dream is that people will feel happiness and inspiration when they see these homes,” Kim says. “We’re building more than houses; we’re building a legacy.”
